Judas 62 Charles Cumming

Spy Another Day | Charles Cumming Interview

We were delighted to be joined by British writer Charles Cumming in this edition of the Love Your Library podcast. his latest book, Judas 62, is the second book in Charles’ gripping Box 88 series and tells the story of Lachlan Kite in two interlinked time periods: Russia in the 1990s and Dubai in the present day. Kite needs to navigate the dangerous territory of the FSB, Russia’s modern-day security service and successor of the KGB, with the focus on a list of Russia’s enemies who have been targeted for assassination. He spoke to us about what drives modern day spies to risk their safety, family life and mental health to work in today’s secret service.

Best known for his impressive bibliography of spy fiction, including A Spy By Nature, The Spanish Game and A Foreign Country, he has written more than ten spy novels. Lauded by critics as ‘the best of the new generation of British spy writers’, his work has been compared to that of heavyweights John le Carré and Len Deighton.

Hattie and Isaac also chatted to Lucia from Hythe Library about her recommended read for the month: Elena Ferrante’s My Beautiful Friend. Set in 1950s Naples, the story charts the friendship of two girls raised during the aftermath of the war.
